Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC)
DATE: Tuesday, 7th October 2025
TIME: 8:00am - 5:00pm
VENUE: Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC)
ROOM: Room to be confirmed closer to the conference via the Program
REGISTRATION FEE: $340
HOSTED BY: Committee For Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (CTECC)
DESCRIPTION: The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) guidelines represent a set of evidenced-based best practices for the immediate medical management of wounded in all prehospital high-risk scenarios. TECC is not tactical medicine; instead, it is intended for situations with on-going threat to the provider and patient. TECC balances the on-going threats, civilian scope of practice, population, medical equipment, and the variable response resources in civilian atypical emergencies. This course is intended to familiarize Advanced Life Support Providers, Basic Life Support providers, EMS Medical Directors and Operational Leadership with the medical and tactical guidelines, medical evidence, controversies in high threat medicine, and explore the different types and brands of medical equipment involved in the TECC guidelines.
-
Take-home point #1: There are three phases of TECC medical care that are defined by the relationship of the provider to the threat. Each phases has a different set of medical priorities that are driven by the medical risk-benefit ratio.
-
Take-home point #2: Indirect Threat Care is the phase where there is a continued realistic threat of further injury to the provider and patient but that threat is not tangible, well defined and immediate. In this phase of care, the medical priorities can be defined by the mnemonic MARCHE.
-
Take-home point #3: TECC is applicable in all high threat operations where there is an ongoing risk to the provider and patient, and the tactical operations have impact and implications on medical operations. This is not limited to law enforcement related operations such as SWAT operations and Active Shooter response, but includes all high threat like medical response to explosive mass casualty, vehicle rammings, hazardous materials response, and technical rescue.
This workshop will be taught directly by two of the co-founders and co-chairs of the Committee and will address current controversies and future direction and developments in TECC.

Medical Training for Law Enforcement
DATE: Tuesday, 7th October 2025
TIME: 8:00am - 5:00pm
VENUE: Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC)
ROOM: Room to be confirmed closer to the conference via the Program
REGISTRATION FEE: $340
HOSTED BY: Jason Roosa, MD MS
DESCRIPTION: Development and Implementation of Training Program for Patrol / General Duties Officers and Improve Patient Survival.
Law Enforcement officers are frequently the first to arrive during life-threatening trauma and medical emergencies, allowing them to begin high-yield, time-critical interventions that can substantially improve patient survival. There have been significant improvements in medical and casualty care training for law enforcement over the past decades, but many of these successes have focused on specialty teams and strongly emphasize haemorrhage control.
In this workshop we will discuss quarterly medical training model for law enforcement organisations that covers four commonly encountered life-threatening situations: trauma/casualty care, cardiac arrest, overdose, and agitation/restraint/death in custody.
We will discuss best practices and lessons learned from organisations that have successfully implemented training on each of these topics, followed by group discussions with attendees on successes in their home organisations and barriers to implementation.
Attendees will acquire concepts, tools, and resources that will allow them to begin building or augmenting medical training programs for patrol/general duties officers in their home organisations to address these common life threats and improve patient survival.
TARGET AUDIENCE: Patrol / General Duties Officers

Pre-Veterinary Care
DATE: Tuesday, 7th October 2025
TIME: 8:00am - 12:00pm
VENUE: Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC)
ROOM: Room to be confirmed closer to the conference via the Program
REGISTRATION FEE: $150
HOSTED BY: ADF Veterinarian and Senior Medical Technician
WORKSHOP PARTNER: Southern K9 Systems
DESCRIPTION: Working dogs are valuable serving members and we have a moral responsibility to provide them with appropriate health support. The basic principles of trauma care are similar regardless of species. However, the canine casualty is not just a small adult human. These differences do have an impact on the assessment and management of canine trauma casualties.
The Pre-Veterinary care workshop is designed to inspire health practitioners who are usually pre-occupied with treating human mammal in an operational environment but may also be confronted with the working canines attached to them.
The workshop aims to address the contextual challenges of dealing with canine trauma using outcome focused scenario training. You will be guided by ADF Veterinarian and Senior Medical Technician and have the opportunity to participate in a range of skills using the "Diesel" K9 Training Simulation Aid. Topics covered include fundamentals of canine casualty care including approach, monitoring vitals, CPR and patient movement techniques. You will get an opportunity to apply treatment for fracture stabilisation and management of massive haemorrhage using the "Diesel" K9 Training Aid mannequin.
